Welcome to
E2theMax (effective to the max)
and the E2theMax Challenge

by E2theMax owner Jacqui Jones

As a business owner do you look at bigger businesses and think 'how do we get there?'.

If you do, the E2theMax Challenge has been designed for you.

Years of experience in big businesses and being particularly dedicated to 3 capabilities they thrive on has made a huge difference in my own businesses and those that E2theMax works with.

As a Challenge participant you'll get to experience these in your own business, and because the Challenge includes 12-weeks of practical teamwork, the benefits will be quickly evident.

What are the 3 capabilities?

For 14 years in corporates I only had to go down the corridor to find the best accounting, legal, marketing, HR, IT and other input the firm could recruit. It was all free of direct cost, all highly accountable and with general and executive level management and governance, we were all aligned to a common purpose – making the business more effective (ie: more profitable with greater market share). Those were the days!

Since 1996 as a business owner, success has been largely down to continuing with the ‘corporate way’, in particular the 3 capabilities that brought it all together: Communication, collaboration and teamwork to achieve results. It wasn't a conscious decision to do this. I didn't know any different way of working and that's been a real bonus.

In our own not-so-big ventures of course, our colleagues are outside of our businesses and called suppliers, and there is a direct cost for their input, but getting to grips with the 3 capabilities makes an enormous difference in business effectiveness.

A few years later the penny dropped that in SME this wasn't the norm.

Changing the norm

By 2007 I had met so many owners with businesses at a plateau, a crossroads, or experiencing out of control growth who didn’t have the needed array of expertise around them, it dawned on me that communication, collaboration and teamwork with external suppliers wasn’t the norm in SME.

In my key areas of technology and marketing, experiences seemed particularly bad.

E2theMax (effective to the max) was born to change that. First we created NZ’s first online business expo, then we asked the exhibitors to step up and work alongside owners, demonstrating what can be achieved when the right business and the right team get clear and get going.

In the first year of the E2theMax Business Makeover Challenge we had 28 businesses working with one company (MR Print) and 22 working with another (Hearty Kiwi Foods). At the end of 8 weeks there seemed to be a chorus of ‘now we get it!’.

Established track record: Over $1million in negotiated contributions of expertise, products and services from the private sector boosting close to 300 businesses

The Challenge grew in 2009 and has evolved into a nationwide initiative out to boost up to 50 businesses in 2010. Close to $1million in contributions of expertise, products and services was negotiated in 2008/2009 to provide a level of boost to around 300 businesses that have participated.

In 2010 we'll assist up to 50 participating businesses to identify what they most need and in which order and to work with suppliers contributing expertise, products and services, utilising the 3 capabilities to make real progress in a 12-week boost (June-August inclusive).

E2theMax is surrounded by many highly regarded suppliers who have stepped up to support the Challenge contributing expertise, products and services. This year, between the Challenge starting event, the Masterclass in late April, and the Reveal Event in mid-September, there’ll be a great deal of communication, collaboration and teamwork in evidence and many enduring capabilities and relationships will be developed.

It’s easier than you might think.

Our Challenge winners from 2008 and 2009 all agree. Experience the difference, bring it all together and get a real boost in the E2theMax Business Challenge 2010. Applications close on 2 April 2010. Established businesses with real potential and aspiration to thrive are encouraged to apply today.

Best regards,
Jacqui Jones
and the E2theMax team.

PS: If your mentor, coach or another advisor is not right behind you taking part in this initiative, please suggest they call me. The Challenge provides established businesses with a boost of 'serious horsepower' as Jon Sherlock, MD of iFarm and a Challenge 09 winner puts it. As such it does not replace ongoing internal or external management or coaching that puts your business success first and values communication, collaboration and teamwork.

Up to 50 businesses nationwide will be selected to participate in the Challenge 2010 and experience a 12-week boost, each with up to $60,000 in contributed expertise, products and services.

What's on offer?
  • Extensive access to highly-regarded experts, working collaboratively with a whole-of-business focus.
  • The opportunity to pitch for up to $60,000 in contributed expertise and services to be worked in to your business throughout a 12-week boost.
  • Extensive promotion of your boosted business at the Challenge 2010 Reveal Event, in this year’s Challenge publication and online at www.E2theMax.biz.
